External links are links that will take you from your website to a website you do not own. The most common links are Text links. To create a text external link, follow below. If you're after how to add items to your menus, please click here. First, select the text you want to turn into a clickable text link (shown below ‘click here’ is selected). Then click on the “Insert / Edit Link” button (icon to click is highlighted below with a red box)
The following window should pop up.
First, enter the URL you are linking to. For example, http://www.google.com.au would take you to Google. If you are linking to a set page on a website, you should first navigate yourself in a separate window to the page and then copy the URL for that page from your Address Bar. An example of this is shown below. For example, if you want to link to a page on Magicdust.com.au you would first navigate to the page, in this example we’re using the support page:
Then you would select the URL with your mouse, right click it and select copy (shown below)
This way, you can be sure that you’re linking to the correct page. This also prevents you from having to guess at or type up the URL yourself from scratch. Pasting the URL you copied into the URL field, then giving it an appropriate title (eg, ‘Magicdust support page’) and then lastly clicking Add Link would create the link successfully.
Your page should now show the text you selected in blue and underlined (shown below). Click ‘Update’ to save your changes.
It’s always good practice to check your work to ensure that the link goes to the correct page by clicking ‘View Page’. The two quickest ways of getting to your page is shown below:
